Question water softener with whole house water filter?

If I buy a water softener that has a built in water filter, whole house, I have to remove the filter on my water dispenser on the refrigerator so my water is "Too" filtered? Someone told me and I find it hard to believe, so I'm getting experts for advice. Thank you! We have well water and tried to get the Waterboss 700, there are 2 people in my house.
